Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
Anxiety and Overwhelm in Lake Orion and across Michigan
Anxiety is a nervous system doing its job too well. It scans for threat, it rehearses the worst case, and it keeps you braced for a blow that mostly never lands. Counseling does not aim to switch it off. It aims to give you back the choice about when it runs, and to quiet the patterns that keep it running all day.
Who this helps
How the work goes
Understand the pattern before changing it
Most anxiety has a shape: a trigger, a story the mind tells, a body response, and a habit that gives short relief and long cost. The first sessions map that shape in your life specifically, so the work is aimed at the right place instead of at anxiety in general.
Practical tools that fit real days
Grounding and breathing practices that work in a car park or a meeting, not only in a quiet room. Ways to interrupt the worry spiral early. Sleep and routine adjustments that reduce the baseline. These are chosen with you and adjusted as you learn what actually helps.
What the anxiety is protecting
Anxiety usually guards something: an old experience, a fear of letting people down, a self-image that cannot afford a mistake. Reflective work alongside the practical tools is what makes the change hold, because it addresses why the alarm was set so high in the first place.
What sessions look like
Sessions are 60 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in person in Lake Orion or by secure telehealth anywhere in Michigan. Anxiety work is often shorter and more structured than trauma or grief work, with something practical to try between sessions from the first week. The fee, the deposit, and how out-of-network benefits apply are on the fees page.
Questions people ask
Is this therapy for anxiety, or coaching?
Therapy. Lizanne is a licensed professional counselor, and anxiety work here is clinical: it looks at the whole picture, including history and mood, not only at productivity or habits. Practical tools are part of it, but they sit inside a clinical relationship.
Will I need medication?
Counseling does not prescribe, and many people manage anxiety well without medication. If symptoms are severe enough that medication might help, Lizanne will say so and can coordinate with your physician or psychiatrist; the decision stays with you and your prescriber.
How quickly will I notice a difference?
Most people feel some relief within the first few sessions simply from understanding the pattern and having somewhere to put it. Durable change in how the nervous system reacts usually takes a few months of steady work.
Can anxiety counseling be done by telehealth?
Yes. Telehealth suits anxiety work well because you practise the tools in the environment where the anxiety actually shows up. Sessions are held over a secure video link with clients located in Michigan.
